“A Small Town Christmas in Banner Elk” is a three-day weekend celebration featuring traditional holiday events and activities.
The fun begins Friday evening with the lighting of the official town tree at 6:30 p.m. at Corner on Main park in downtown Banner Elk. Tree lighting festivities include caroling and hot chocolate.
Following the tree lighting, folks can walk to the Historic Banner Elk School for a Christmas variety show performed by Ensemble Stage, a professional theater troupe in Banner Elk. The holiday revue takes place in the school’s 99-seat theater. Tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for children 16 and younger.
Events continue all day Saturday, including breakfast with Santa, a community carol sing, cookie decorating, ornament making and holiday shopping. A festive Christmas parade takes place at dusk on Main Street, followed by mini-train rides, holiday lights and visits with Santa Claus on the lawn of the Historic Banner Elk School.
Sunday includes visits to choose-and-cut Christmas tree farms, tours of Apple Hill Alpaca Farm and an encore weekend performance of the Christmas variety show.
