Lees-McRae Theatre Arts presents, “Steel Magnolias,” an iconic southern comedy-drama based on the beloved film of the same name.
The play revolves around an inter-generational group of small-town Louisiana women as they gather in Truvy’s Salon to share humor, gossip, joy and heartbreak. The women support one another through life’s joys and heartbreaks — especially as Shelby, a spirited young woman, faces serious health challenges while determined to live life on her own terms.
“This show has made me think of my ‘steel magnolias’: my grandmother, my mother, my sister, my friends that I grew up with in my small town,” says LillyRuth Beck, a senior Musical Theatre major playing the role of Shelby Eatenton. “I hope audience members realize how friendships can be so meaningful.”
The show marks the directorial debut of JoBeth Hilton, a Lees-McRae Musical Theatre alumna from the class of 2023.
Evening performances take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, and Friday, Feb. 13. Two matinee performances are at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, and Sunday, Feb. 15.
All performances are in Hayes Auditorium on the campus of Lees-McRae College. Details and tickets are available here.
