Sugar Mountain Resort Summit Crawl

The Sugar Mountain Resort Summit Crawl is a fun event in which participants walk, hike or crawl up Sugar Mountain’s 5,300-foot peak by way of three ski slopes: Easy Street, Gunther’s Way and Northridge.

Although mostly just for fun, times are kept and prizes are awarded in various categories. The uphill course is approximately 1.2 miles in length with a vertical climb of 1,200 feet. Crossing the mile-high finish line qualifies participants for a chance to win a 2024-25 Sugar Mountain Resort season pass. Everyone receives complimentary water and fruit at the summit, donated by Lowes Foods.

The crawl begins at 9 a.m. After reaching the summit, competitors hop on the high-speed, detachable, Summit Express chairlift for a relaxing ride to the base of the ski resort to enjoy live music by The Rockabilly’s from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Later in the afternoon, Classic Highway performs from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Food and refreshments are available in the base lodge all day long. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Sugar Mountain Sports Shop is open.

The day concludes with a fireworks show lighting up the High Country sky just after 9 p.m. The fireworks are launched from Sugar Mountain’s peak. Click here for details.

Entry fee is $45 for adults, and $35 for children 12 and younger. Registration is open through 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 2.

Participants may register in person Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Sugar Mountain Resort’s administration office located in the base lodge, or online here through 4 p.m. on July 2. Event-day registration is not available.
