Lees-McRae Summer Theatre presents "1940: A New Musical"

The year is 1940. The Great Depression has ended and Hitler is making noise throughout Europe. But at the Mast General Store in the North Carolina High Country, storytellers and musicians gather to spin a yarn and sing a few songs.

They are a hearty lot — able to withstand a major flood and the ravages of the Depression, yet maintain their charm, humor, and willingness to impart the kind of wisdom needed to be heard in today’s world. Be sure to see this fresh mountain musical full of friendly faces and familiar places.

Bringing “1940: A New Musical” to the stage are creators Janet Barton Speer, John Thomas Oaks and Tommy Oaks. They are the same trio that produced “From the Mountaintop: The Edgar Tufts Story” and “The (W)right Sister.”
